الصحفيون في غزة يدعون الصحفيين الأمريكيين لمقاطعة عشاء مراسلي البيت الأبيض
غزة– في رسالة مفتوحة صدرت اليوم، حث الصحفيون الفلسطينيون الذين يغطون الهجمات الإسرائيلية على غزة ، الصحفيين في الولايات المتحدة على رفض حضور العشاء السنوي لمراسلي البيت الأبيض، بينما يتم استهداف زملائهم وقتلهم على يد إسرائيل باستخدام أسلحة مزودة من الولايات المتحدة.
ووقع أكثر من عشرين صحفيًا فلسطينيًا يغطون هجمات إسرائيل على غزة من الأرض، رسالة مفتوحة لدعوة الصحفيين في الولايات المتحدة إلى مقاطعة العشاء السنوي لمراسلي البيت الأبيض بينما يتم استهداف زملاؤهم وقتلهم بواسطة إسرائيل باستخدام أسلحة مزودة من الولايات المتحدة.
وجاء في نص الرسالة: “بصفتنا صحفيين فلسطينيين، نناشدكم بشدة، زملائنا على المستوى العالمي، بطلب تدخل فوري وثابت ضد مشاركة إدارة بايدن في الاستمرار في المساهمة في المذابح والاضطهاد المنظم للصحفيين في غزة. نصر على أن تقاطعوا علناً حفل عشاء مراسلي البيت الأبيض المقرر في 27 أبريل كتعبير عن تضامن معنا – زملاؤكم الصحفيين – فضلاً عن الملايين من الفلسطينيين الذين يُمنعون حاليًا من الحصول على الغذاء في غزة بسبب استمرار إدارة بايدن في دعم إسرائيل سياسيًا وماليًا وعسكريًا وقطع التمويل للمساعدات الإنسانية التي تنقذ الحياة”..
ومن بين الصحفيين الموقعين على الرسالة: بسان عودة، وعلي جدالله، وحسام سالم، ومحمد زعنون، وأحمد المدهون، ومحمد المصري. وظل بعض الموقعين مجهولين خوفاً من استهدافهم وقتلهم.
كما وقع على الرسالة صحفيين فلسطينيين بارزين خارج غزة، بما في ذلك مريم البرغوثي، وأحمد شهاب الدين، ومحمد الكرد، وسعيد عريقات، وإيمان محمد، وجنان مطاري.
منذ السابع من أكتوبر، قتلت إسرائيل ما لا يقل عن 33،000 فلسطينيًا في غزة، بما في ذلك 125 صحفيًا – 10٪ من مجتمع الصحفيين في غزة. وهذا يعادل قتل 8،500 موظف في غرفة الأخبار في الولايات المتحدة في ستة أشهر فقط (استنادًا إلى بيانات تقرير بيو لعام 2020 عن تقديرات موظفي الأخبار في الولايات المتحدة).

لم يكن هناك غضب عام في غرف الأخبار الأمريكية بسبب قتل الصحفيين الفلسطينيين. خلال عشاء مراسلي البيت الأبيض في العام الماضي، طالب الرئيس بايدن وآخرون روسيا بالإفراج عن إيفان جيرشكوفيتش من صحيفة وول ستريت جورنال.
“لقد شاهدنا كيف طالب الصحفيون في جميع أنحاء الولايات المتحدة بالعدالة لزملائهم الصحفيين مثل جمال خاشقجي، وشيرين أبو عاقلة، وإيفان جيرشكوفيتش. حان الوقت ليأخذ الصحفيون إجراء لصالح الصحفيين في غزة”، تقول الرسالة.
كما أيدت دعوة مقاطعة العشاء من قبل الاتحاد الفلسطيني للصحفيين (PJS)، الذي يضم أكثر من نصف عمال الإعلام في غزة. “لا يمكننا تجاهل دور عشاء مراسلي البيت الأبيض في تشريع وتبييض نفس الدعاية والسياسات القاتلة التي تخرج من إدارة بايدن خلال مؤتمراته الصحفية اليومية عن طريق جمع الصحفيين معًا للجلوس والضحك مع الرئيس، متجاهلين مسؤوليته في الاغتيالات واستهداف الصحفيين الفلسطينيين في غزة”، قال رئيس الاتحاد ناصر أبو بكر.
“الهجوم على حرية الصحافة في فلسطين هو هجوم على جميع الصحفيين في العالم”، يستمر أبو بكر. “بالنسبة لأعضائنا وزملائنا في غزة، نحن، الاتحاد الفلسطيني للصحفيين، ندعو زملائنا الصحفيين إلى مقاطعة عشاء مراسلي البيت الأبيض. دعوا الغياب يتحدث بصوت أعلى مما قد ننطق به على ذلك الطاولة.”

Palestinian Journalists from Gaza Call on U.S. Journalists to Boycott the White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Palestinian journalists reporting from Gaza urge U.S. journalists to refuse to attend the high-profile event as President Biden bankrolls Israel’s genocide and targeting of journalists in the Strip in open letter released today
Washington, DC – In a new letter released today, more than two dozen Palestinian journalists covering Israel’s attacks on Gaza from the ground are calling on journalists in the U.S. to boycott the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner while their colleagues are being targeted and killed by Israel using U.S.-supplied weapons.
“As Palestinian journalists, we urgently appeal to you, our colleagues globally, with a demand for immediate and unwavering action against the Biden administration’s ongoing complicity in the systematic slaughter and persecution of journalists in Gaza. We insist you publicly boycott the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 27 as an act of solidarity with us – your fellow journalists – as well as with the millions of Palestinians currently being starved in Gaza due to the Biden administration’s continued political, financial, and military backing of Israel and cut-off of funding for live-saving humanitarian aid,” the letter states.
Signatories to the letter include Bisan Owda, Ali Jadallah, Hosam Salem, Mohammed Zaanoun, Ahmed El-Madhoun, and Mohamed Almasri. Some signatories remained anonymous out of fear of being targeted and killed.
The letter is also endorsed by prominent Palestinian journalists outside of Gaza, including Mariam Barghouti, Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, Mohammed El Kurd, Said Arikat, Eman Mohammed, and Jenan Matari.
Since October 7, Israel has killed at least 33,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including 125 journalists – 10% of Gaza’s community of journalists. This would be equivalent to killing 8,500 newsroom employees in the U.S. in just six months (based on 2020 Pew report data of an estimated 85,000 U.S. newsroom employees).
“For Palestinian journalists in Gaza, the blue press vest does not offer us protection, but rather functions as a red target,” the signatories write in their letter.
There has been little public outrage in U.S. newsrooms over the killing of Palestinian journalists. During last year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Biden and others demanded Russia release Evan Gershkovich of The Wall Street Journal.
“We have witnessed how journalists across the U.S. have demanded justice for fellow journalists like Jamal Khashoggi, Shireen Abu Akleh, and Evan Gershkovich. It is past time journalists take action for journalists in Gaza,” the letter states.
The call to boycott the dinner is also endorsed by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS), which counts as members over half of Gaza’s media workers. “We cannot overlook the White House Correspondents’ Dinner’s role in legitimizing and whitewashing the same deadly propaganda and policies coming out of the Biden administration during its daily press briefings by bringing journalists together to sit and laugh with the President, while ignoring his complicity in the assassinations and targeting of Palestinian journalists in Gaza,” said Syndicate President Nasser Abu Baker.
“The assault on press freedom in Palestine is an assault on all journalists worldwide,” Abu Baker continues. “For our members and colleagues in Gaza, we, the Palestinian Journalist Syndicate, call upon our fellow journalists to boycott the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Let absence speak louder than any words we might utter at that table.”
