Ramallah- The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) stresses that the Israeli occupation committed a war crime by the killing of journalists Mustafa Thuraya and Hamza Wa’el Al- Dahdouh because they were journalists, and all Israeli attempts to mislead and fabricate confusing narratives have proven their failure and lies.
The PJS reiterates its emphasis on holding the Israeli occupation and its political, military and security leadership fully responsible for killing Palestinian journalists and committing horrific war crimes against them.
In this context, the PJS confirms that war crimes committed against Palestinian journalists are committed daily in a systematic manner and by an official decision of the Israeli occupation government and the leadership of its army and security services. These killers will be held accountable and trialled without impunity in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions.
The PJS considers that the Israeli occupation’s attempts to evade responsibility for killing journalists and evading punishment will not succeed, no matter how much they try to lie, mislead, and falsify the facts. As the Israeli occupation attempts to claim that some journalists were within the Palestinian resistance, this was its claim was against the two killed journalists, Mustafa Thuraya and Hamza Al-Dahdouh (son of our colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh, who also survived an intended assassination attempt in which our colleague, journalist Samer Abu Daqqa, was killed).
In this context, the PJS asserts that the Israeli occupation’s contradictory narratives confirm its lie, as in the case of the assassination of the journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, where the Israeli occupation claimed that a wanted resistance movement member was killed with her, later it has been proven that there was nobody killed rather than Shireen.
This time, the occupation claims that Mustafa and Hamza were fighters with the Palestinian resistance, and this is also a lie and vague claim, as according to what the Dahdouh family reported to the PJS, the Israeli occupation authorities had already gave permission for Hamza to travel through Rafah crossing two days before his killing, his family said: “ How comes that the occupation authorities give a person security approval to travel if he is wanted, while everyone knows that the occupation authorities bans the travel of wanted persons?”
A source from Wael Dahdouh confirmed that on Wednesday evening, his son Yahya, four daughters and grandchildren were able to leave Gaza and travel through Rafah border crossing to Egypt then to Qatar, while Wa’el preferred to stay and continue the coverage due to the intense grief he was facing due to the loss of Hamza, his other son, his daughter, and his wife.
The resource stressed that Hamza, obtained approval from the Israeli authorities two days before his assassination, It is illogical to accuse him of these accusations after that!
The PJS calls on all media outlets to be careful in dealing with the Israeli occupation’s narratives, seek accuracy and objectivity, and always check with Palestinian sources regarding journalists, the first of which is the PJS, which follows up on all the war crimes committed daily against Palestinian journalists.
In this context, the PJS recalls that the occupation continues to ban foreign journalists to entering Gaza to cover the media, which the PJS sees as further evidence of the continuation of killing on the one hand, and on the other hand of fabricating lies without international witnesses to their crimes.
